In 2014, Allen ran in one of the most challenging events in the world--the La Ultra the High. The 333K event (206.9 miles), run in the Himalayan Mountains of North India, starts at 15,000 feet and rises to 17,000 feet. Oxygen availability is 50% of what it is at sea level. Weather conditions can be extreme, and can change dramatically in short periods of time. The event draws a small but skilled and accomplished group of runners. In 2015, Allen ran the Vol State Run--a race across the state of Tennessee! The Vol State is not just another ultramarathon. It is much more than that. The Vol State is a journey, an adventure, and an exploration of inner space. It begins with a ferry ride across the Mississippi River, from Missouri to Kentucky, and finishes at “the Rock,” high atop Sand Mountain in Northeast Georgia. In February 2023, Allen ran his latest 100-mile ultra--The Red Dirt Ultra at Kisatchie National Forest in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. Buck ran the 50K (31.1 miles). Hear Allen and Buck talk about that race on Down Trails of Victory podcast!
The Wrinkle family settled in the Kisatchie area in the early 1800s. Several Wrinkles are buried in cemeteries within the national forest.
